Junior Girls – Jersey Programme

England-Golf_Girls-Golf-Press-ReleaseFollowing on from the success of last year, this pathway will continue to provide an opportunity for girls on the island to receive monthly coaching; participate in fun activities and promote player retention through the development of friendship groups.  It is to be run in addition to and in conjunction with the coaching that the girls may already attend at their own clubs on the Island.

Some of the activities on offer will appear to not have much obvious connection to golf at times, but these are included to help promote athletic development and reduce the risk of injury.  For example, activities such as throwing a frisbee; teaches children proper wrist release and body alignment while keeping the game fun.

Based upon feedback from parents and girls and upon reflection of last year’s programme; there are a couple of changes to be introduced for 2017:

Last year all the girls were kept together as one group to encourage them to get to know each other and promote the social benefits.  However, to allow for additional participants and to be able to provide more appropriate coaching based upon ability, this year there will be 2 separate sessions.

Sessions will take place from 10.00 – 11.30 and 13.00 – 14.30 on the dates listed below:

  • Sunday 23rd April
  • Sunday 21st May
  • Sunday 4th June
  • Sunday 16th July
  • Sunday 17th September
  • Sunday 15th October

In 2016, following county guidelines, three-hour coaching sessions were held which are appropriate on the mainland where participants must travel further.  However, it was apparent that these sessions were too long based upon the coaching environment available and as a result this year shorter and more appropriate 90 minute sessions will be held.

Players who currently hold official handicaps or who are at a level where they are working towards these are encouraged to join the morning session from 10.00 – 11.30.  Beginners and those players newer to the game are encouraged to join the afternoon session from 13.00 – 14.30.  I will endeavour to keep sisters / friends together where possible, if appropriate.

We are fortunate that the programme is heavily subsidised by the county and therefore the cost per girl to include all 6 coaching sessions is £30.  Cheques are to be made payable to AMP Golf Ltd.  Payment may also be made via bank transfer to AMP Golf Ltd, 40-25-33, 81860615.
