Rowlands Castle Golf Club

18 hole Greensomes stableford (fun!) – max combined handicap of 60

Well what a difference a day makes after the deluge of Monday and a very pleasant day awaited the 38 pairs entered in today’s fun, mixed event.  Lady Captain from Rowlands Castle Sue Slight saw half the field off and immediate Past President of HGU John Moore finished his stint out on the course seeing all hit perfect shots down the short par 4 first.

That’s the first nine done now for the back holes.

The sun continued to shine all day and course conditions and the true greens helped to produce some good scores.  Our thanks to all the staff and members at Rowlands Castle and the caterers for providing an excellent carvery.

Our winners are mother and son partnership, from Rowlands Castle, Jan & Mark Ostrom with a magnificent 41 pts, just ahead of Weybrook Park’s Debbie & Sandy Burrell on c/b.  One point behind was Polly Church (Alresford) and Sean Dolphin (Hockley).  This event is most enjoyable and friendly and the atmosphere in the clubhouse seemed to endorse this idea with everyone mixing well; it is a joint venture with the Association and Union and one that should continue hopefully as interest in entering grows each year.

Thanks go to our referees Tony Child and Mike Cave out on the course helping with queries and keeping an eye on play and to John Moore for his administrative powers and presentational skills.  To Manager Keith Fisher and all at Rowlands for extending their welcome to both HLCGA and HGU members, our gratitude, and hope to see you all next year at Stoneham GC
