It was fitting that our Veterans’ Championship was held at Corhampton on D-Day and all involved enjoyed a sunny day with spectacular views out on the course of the rolling Hampshire countryside.  The course proved challenging with fast greens and CSS rose to 75 for the whole day.  Even so, there were some very good scores recorded, especially by the 38 Bronze ladies taking part with a further 64 playing in the medal earlier in the day.

In Division 1 (+ -17) Sue Gale from Weybrook Park had the best gross score of with 82 with Corhampton member Elizabeth Butler recording the best nett of 75.

Weybrook Park managed the double, with Jenny Garner pronounced Champion in Division 2 (18 – 20) with her 72 and a surprised Gill Staley from North Hants had 91 to claim best gross.

The Super 70s prize (self-explanatory but if you are struggling those born in 1949 or before!) for the medal round went to Royal Winchester’s Lyn Brace and to Betty Deal from Rowlands Castle in the stableford.

The IOW ladies always support the mainland competitions and were out in force again with Christine O’Brien from Sandown and Shanklin scoring a tremendous 37 pts but Anne McDermott, from Royal Winchester, came in towards the end of the field with a magnificent 40 pts to claim the Veterans’ Salver in the Bronze Championship!

The 11th green provided three 2s for the lucky few and the small profit will go towards our Junior section so thank you to all who paid into the pot.

Also, thanks to everyone for taking part and also to the organisers Jill England and Judy Andrews, there all day from 7.15am (!), Chris Quinn, Debbie Tapply, Ann Younger, presenting the prizes Veterans’ Captain Linda Eales and not forgetting Di Stock the on course Referee.  Their hard work made this a very successful, enjoyable and seamless day again.

Our thanks also to all the staff and members at Corhampton who put on a very good day for us all and their attention to detail,  interest and effort was much appreciated.
