The IWLGA Championships were held on the 6th and 7th of June at Freshwater Bay Golf Club in glorious weather conditions.

Last years winner Sammi Keen from Freshwater beat Gillian Fahy of Osborne in the first semi-final with Joanne Wright of Shanklin & Sandown beating Lucy Burke of Freshwater in the second.

SammyA very close final resulted in Sammi winning the Fairfax Trophy on the 18th hole 2up.

Debbie Skoludek from Ryde won both the Helen Day trophy for the best scratch score and the handicap prize in the qualifying round.

In Silver division 2 (handicaps 15 – 20) Rose Green from Ryde beat Stephanie Hart from S&S in the first of the semi-finals while Lesley Catchpole from Osborne beat Sue Oldershaw from FW.  Sue was the handicap winner with Ruth Stockley, also from FW, winning the Scratch prize.

Rose won the final on the 17th hole 2&1.

In the Bronze division (handicaps of 21 – 28) it was an all Freshwater Bay final with Ros Pinnell beating Gail Brown in a marathon match finishing on the 21st hole.

The losing semi-finalists were Sara Weech and Judith Lazell both from Ryde.

Marian Johnston from Ryde won both the scratch and handicap prizes.

The Sibyl Browne Vase, a stableford competition played on the second day, was won by local player Jan Smith with 38 points, Jan Easlea from S&S was second also with 38 points and Elaine Hunter, FW, was third with 35 pts.

The IWLGA Captain Jasmine Royl and President Margaret Butler presented the prizes.
