2nd Team 2015

Stovold Trophy Matches

Thursday 27 August 2015 – Hampshire vs Middlesex at Army:  Won 11-1
We were very lucky to arrive at Army GC and welcome Elizabeth Thomas, President of Middlesex, and her team for the last of this year’s Stovold matches and find the course in such good condition, despite the heavy rain from the previous days.  Having unfortunately not won a match this year, the team was very keen to see if we could bring in a win.  Our morning foursomes matches certainly got us off to a great start as we won all four.  After a very good lunch, the singles matches began and again the team played very well to bring in 7 wins from the 8 matches.  All the games were played in a great spirit and there was certainly plenty of laughter amongst the teams and our two supporters!
It was kind of Mags Clark, our County Captain, to come along and support the team.  However, many of you will no doubt have seen the pictures on our “facebook” page and it looks like the combination of Elizabeth and Mags walking along the fairways together proved great fun.
Thank you to Richard Lloyd and his team at Army GC for making us all so welcome and looking after our needs throughout the day.
It was a most enjoyable day and a great way to complete my two years with the 2nd team.  It has been a pleasure working with the players and I hope that Kay Walshe enjoys her time with the team as much as I have.
Hampshire were represented by Louise Caplen (Stoneham), Julie Cole (Romsey),  Lynne Cowser (Alresford), Ailsa Fraser (Army), Adrian Mylrea (Bramshaw), Becky Scott (Alresford), Jade Scott (Andover) and Jane Scott (Alresford).
The outcome of the Stovold Trophy has still to be decided and will depend on the final match between Sussex and Middlesex – if Sussex win, they will win the Trophy.

Thursday 13 August 2015 – Hampshire vs Surrey at West Surrey: Lost 9-3
A warm welcome from the staff at West Surrey and Surrey’s Stovold Captain, Delyth Roberts was waiting for the Hampshire team as we arrived to play our 3rd Stovold match.  Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, Hampshire could only field 7 players instead of 8, so we knew the task ahead was going to be tough.  However, despite having to concede one morning match, Hampshire were level 2-2 at lunchtime. The rain and thunder that was forecast arrived at the end of our morning matches and continued over lunchtime, which meant a small delay before the afternoon singles matches could begin.  Surrey knowing that they needed a large victory and hoping that future results go their way played extremely well to win the afternoon session.  Again, unfortunately one of our afternoon matches had to be conceded.  So the final result was a win for Surrey 9-3. Fortunately, as the afternoon progressed the weather improved and both teams thoroughly enjoyed playing the West Surrey course. Hampshire were represented by:- Louise Caplen (Stoneham), Julie Cole (Romsey), Ailsa Fraser (Army), Sue Lewis (Bramshott Hill), Di Oram (Basingstoke),  Jane Scott (Alresford) and Kay Walshe (Hockley)

Monday 27 July 2015 – Hampshire vs Sussex at Rowlands Castle: Lost 9-3
It was a pleasure to welcome Tessa Stockwell and her Sussex team to Rowlands Castle on Monday for the second of our Stovold league matches.   Rowlands Castle looked after both teams very well throughout the day and the course was in great condition. The morning foursomes matches were all very close with the first three being completed on the 17th with Sussex unfortunately just taking the first 3 points.  However, a great round of golf from Julie Cole and Ailsa Fraser meant that they won the fourth match with a winning margin of 6 and 5.  So at lunch, Hampshire were trailing 3 -1 but looking forward to their afternoon singles matches. Again, some very close matches with impressive golf from both teams.  Although, three matches finished on the 18th, Sussex were just too strong for us and won the afternoon matches 6-2 giving a final winning score of 9 – 3. Thank you to our County Captain, Mags Clark and President, Bridget Moore who very kindly came along to support the team. Hampshire were represented by: Jane Bennett (Lee on the Solent), Danielle Burrell (Weybrook Park) Louise Caplen (Stoneham), Julie Cole (Romsey), Ailsa Fraser (Army), Sue Lewis (Bramshott Hill), Jade Scott (Andover) and Debbie Tapply (Rowlands Castle)

Wednesday 1 July 2015 – Hampshire vs Kent at Langley Park: Lost 7-5
On the hottest day of the year so far, Hampshire travelled to Langley Park GC to play Kent in the first of our Stovold Trophy matches.  We received a warm welcome from Ann Billings and her team before play began on a Langley Park course which was in excellent condition. The morning foursomes pairings got us off to a great start and at lunch we were leading Kent by 2.5 to 1.5 points.  Highlight of the morning came when Danielle Burrell playing with Becky Scott stood on the Par 3, 18th tee 1 down in the match – just the right time to get her first “hole in one” to draw level and claim a half point.  I was fortunate to witness the shot and it was just perfect – one bounce and in! Unfortunately, the afternoon singles matches did not go in our favour despite some close matches, which meant that Kent just beat us with an overall score of 7 -5. Playing golf all day in that heat was a great test for both teams and I would like to thank all the players for coping with the conditions so well. Hampshire were represented by: Danielle Burrell (Weybrook Park), Caroline Caswell (Stoneham), Sarah Deacon (Basingstoke), Elaine Hutchings (Stoneham), Jo Russell (Hockley), Debbie Tapply (Rowlands Castle), Becky Scott and Jane Scott (Alresford)

Friendly Matches

Monday 30 March 2015 – Hampshire vs Berkshire at Calcot Park GC:  Lost 5-4
It was good to get the 2nd team fixtures under way for the year with our first friendly match against Berkshire and we were warmly welcomed by Nikki Ochtman, their 2nd team Captain at Calcot Park.
Although the morning foursomes matches were very close, with one finishing on the 17th and the other two on the 18th Berkshire went into the lunch break with a lead 2.5 to 0.5.  All the players were keen to have a quick lunch as the weather was not looking good for the afternoon.  Hampshire put up a great fight in the singles matches by winning 3.5 of the 6 points available.  The final score was a win for Berkshire 5.0 to 4.0.
Thank you to Nikki and Calcot Park for making us all feel so welcome and for arranging the fixture on a course which we all thoroughly enjoyed playing.
Hampshire were represented by:- Jane Bennett (Lee on the Solent), Julie Cole (Romsey), Ailsa Fraser (Army), Emma Higgins (Highcliffe Castle), Becky Scott (Alresford) and Jane Scott (Alresford). JS

Monday 13 April 2015 – Hampshire vs Wiltshire at Test Valley GC:  Won 7-2
A lovely spring day welcomed Hazel Shewry, Wiltshire Ladies Vice-Captain and her team to Test Valley GC for our final friendly match of the season.   Hampshire got off to a great start in the morning by winning two of the three foursomes matches.  The afternoon’s weather was just perfect for golf and this was reflected in the standard of shots displayed by both teams.
Hampshire certainly made the most of the conditions and won a convincing afternoon session by 5 matches to 1 giving us an overall winning margin of 7-2.
It’s always a pleasure to see support for Hampshire and thank you to Bridget for coming along to support the team.
Thank you to Ali Briggs and his team at Test Valley for making us all very welcome and looking after our needs throughout the day.
Hampshire were represented by:-  Sarah Deacon (Basingstoke) Bethany Goater (Hockley), Sue Lewis (Bramshott Hill), Jade Scott (Andover), Jane Scott (Alresford) and Debbie Tapply (Rowlands Castle).
